Successful Eco –Fair at St. Colm's High School

On Wednesday 9 th May St. Colm's High School held a very successful Eco-fair organised by Mrs. Claire Devlin, Mrs. Roisin McKenna and Mrs. Juliet Coulter NEELB. The pupils were educated and inspired about the principles of sustainable living ecological design and water conservation.

Every P6 and P7 pupil in the area attended this event. They were led by pupils from the eco-committee around the interactive activities and taken on an eco-trail around St. Colm's to see all the changes the school has put in place to become more eco-friendly.

A key learning area in the revised curriculum is education for sustainability. Ten subjects contributed work from Year 8 pupils which was celebrated on the day.

The Principal and staff wish to thank all the outside agencies who took time out of their busy schedule to come to St. Colm's and inspire our pupils and the wider community.

They were Shirley Lewis (Bag Lady), The Ulster Wildlife Trust, The Environment & Heritage Service, The Loughs Agency, The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, RSPB, ECOS Centre, Homefirst Community Trust, Cookstown Textile Recyclers, Travelwise DRD Roads, Action Renewables, Homeseal, EGEA Warm Homes Scheme, Rain Vault, Magherafelt District Council Environmental Health Department and Bryson Charitable Scheme. Thanks also to Toner's Supermarket and O'Kane's Centra for their donation of bags for life.
